Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom of 23 students, about half of whom receive special education services. Our students are eager to learn and need the resources in order to be successful in their studies! Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with most of our students receiving free lunch. My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them for the rest of the day!
My Project
Why so much emphasis on small group instruction?
Because small group instruction is a potentially powerful tool for differentiation.
While whole group instruction is efficient, we know it is far from adequate when it comes to meeting the needs of all learners. Conferring is unparalleled when it comes to individualization, yet, in most cases, there simply isn’t enough time to meet all of the needs in this way. Small groups help us bridge the gap between conferring and whole group instruction. It allows us to gather students with similar needs and goals. We are also able to provide scaffolding, feedback, and guided practice to meet students where they are and help them stretch upward.
This teaching table will enable a space for small student groups to be pulled for multiple subjects, allowing for more individualized attention for students. The storage unit will allow materials needed for small group instruction to be readily available and close to the teaching table.
