Help Promote the Science of Reading In Our Class!

Help me give my students books for the ability to practice reading skills using appropriate reading materials that are based in the Science of reading and follow orthographic rules that help them become better readers.

My Students

My students are in a low middle class culture. They come from a diverse group of backgrounds: from a nuclear family, to split family, to families with one parent or grandparents as the parents. They are excited to learn and read for the first time. They are motivated to learn reading strategies and excited to use them in the classroom and show their family members at home!

The district is moving towards the Science of Reading practice.

We have the assistance of Syracuse University to help us learn orthographic mapping and Science of Reading to teach students how to read. With this, many of the books and materials over the years are not at the correct levels, are asking them to do more than what they actually need to be doing. For example: Students are decoding books far too early.

I would like to provide my class with some level A, B, C books that do not require as much decoding but are more pre decodable books which are appropriate for this time of the year in addition, I would like to build my library of decodable books for the spring. These books would contain CVC words,

My Project

Students who have appropriate reading material, that is based in the Science of Reading and appropriate for their development in reading will become confident readers, who enjoy books and want to explore through books!

Students will be able to practice these books in reading groups in class and take them home nightly to share and practice reading with their family members as part of our at home reading program.

Students will follow pre-decodable books to learn that books have patterns, later students will use the books to work with word families, rhyme, blending and so much more!
