My students need extensive modifications to best support their academic needs. My current Smartboard does not have a ceiling projector, and the light of the projector distracts students from their academic tasks.
Imagine living your everyday life with social and communication difficulties in the school setting. You can't always say what you're feeling. You don't understand what the teacher is trying to say. You have challenges expressing your everyday needs.
My classroom is composed of varying ability levels of students including those with Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome in a high-poverty area.
Many of my students are dealing with the difficulties of adolescence along with developmental and academic delays. Assistive technology tools and proper school supplies are essential in their academic and social success.
My Project
My students need extensive modifications to best support their academic needs. My current Smartboard does not have a ceiling projector, and the light of the projector distracts students from their academic tasks. The use of assistive technology within my classroom is an everyday need for my students with communication barriers and significant and profound disabilities. My students need to have the use of visuals, verbal read-alouds, and the ability to touch a screen to have an understanding of the reading curriculum. This gives my students more learning opportunities with independence and engagement that is essential for their functional life skills.
By donating to this project, you help my students with significant and profound disabilities have further access to their reading curriculum and improve their reading abilities. This technology will change my students' lives in the classroom and give them more of the voice and independence that they deserve.
