Help Preschoolers (& their environment) Stay Clean & Germ Free!
Help me give my students the gift of good health! We need Kleenex for runny noses and soap to wash our hands. We need cleaning products and towels to clean and disinfect our classrooms.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our preschool students are the kindest and most lovable people in the world. They look forward to coming to school every day and arrive with a smile on their face and a hug for those that greet them. Our preschool students are enthusiastic about learning! They love to explore, read books, and sing and dance with friends. Our preschool is a safe, exciting, and fun-filled environment for our students to learn and grow. Unfortunately, getting to school each day is a challenge for some of our young learners.
Our Pre-K through 8th-grade elementary school is located in a predominately African-American urban community in Illinois that is plagued by crime, violence, and poverty.
Our school is part of a large metropolitan school district that has high expectations for student learning... BUT is severely underfunded.
My Project
Germs in a preschool classroom are everywhere! We often remind students to cover their sneezes or cough with their elbow. But, to our dismay, students sometimes forget, cough into their hand, and then continue to play with the blocks or dolls (and share those germs).
If you have ever spent time with a preschooler (or spent time in a PK classroom) you will quickly notice that sniffles, sneezes, coughs, and runny noses are EVERYWHERE.
As teachers, we are constantly wiping runny noses, or reminding students to get a tissue and wipe their own nose, but, inevitably, they don't want to stop playing and just might use their hands instead. Once again returning to play and sharing those pesky germs with others. Kids that are sick will not be able to come to school. We want our students to be healthy and learning. Having Kleenex for runny noses, hand soap to wash our hands when we might forget to use Kleenex, and disinfecting spray and cleaner to keep toys and tables clean is the first line of defense. Keeping our kids healthy, in school, and learning is extremely important, and kids that feel good will be able to learn and grow.
