My Students
Have you ever felt the joy of sitting with an adult and sharing a book, even before you were able to read the words yourself? Imagine the joy we can give multiple children, by allowing them to sit together and enjoy listening to stories read just for them, as they follow along in a colorful book!
I am privileged to teach 18 wonderful 3 and 4 year old children in an inner city public school setting.
They are vibrant, active and very excited about learning and being in school. This is their very first year in school, and they have so many experiences to share! Some will come in knowing the alphabet, some will come perhaps reading a few words. All will be thrilled at hearing stories and looking at colorful books as they hear the words and learn by following along.
My Project
Because of massive budget cuts, my school, along with countless others, is unable to provide more than just the bare essentials for classrooms. The shabby radio I use in our listening center is on its last leg. I am unable to have more than 1 or 2 children listen to stories at the same time, because the headphone connections no longer work.
Children love to hear stories over and over again. I do all I can to read each and every book held out by the children's small, eager hands....but cannot read all of them on demand. A working listening center is crucial for those children who thirst to hear stories and follow along.
The radio requested in this proposal will connect to the headphone junction box and allow up to EIGHT children to listen and experience stories. The audio books I have requested will keep the children entertained and eager to read for themselves!
By funding this project, you will launch eager children into the love of reading, learning to read and experiencing book adventures.
