Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the first time you held a book? Often, for my students, this is not a reality until they enter school. Many of my young learners have never read a story or held a book before. Help us grow our library so that we can become life-long learners of reading!
My 23 students attend a small, urban school in Maryland.
They are between 4 and 5 years of age, but are as enthusiastic and engaged as any kid twice their age! My diverse group of young learners represent several home languages and even more countries of origin. They love to learn and show their growing brains and knowledge bases everyday!
My Project
My students are an enthusiastic, diverse group of young students. They absolutely love learning, and cannot get enough of school. One of their favorite times of the day is story time, and they deserve to read the best children's books. However, my school does not have many of the texts used in our curriculum, leaving us to read books that are not Common Core aligned. My students deserve better! They need texts that are engaging, rigorous and meaningful.
The books I have requested represent all of the thematic units we will dive into, such as community helpers, holidays around the world, cooking and health, and family and friendship. I have also requested books that will help my English Language Learners be more engaged during reading time. All my students, no matter what their first language is, love Dora the Explorer! These books are so exciting - and bilingual! My students are really invigorated by her stories.
Help us grow our library!
My students deserve rigorous, fun and meaningful story books to fill our library.
They need books that will connect our science and social studies sub-themes to make reading comprehension skills and vocabulary a rich and rigorous reality! These books are award-winning stories with rich illustrations and wonderful, relatable characters and story elements.
I strive to grow my young learners into lovers of reading. Please donate today to help my students get access to quality story books!
