Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our student population is comprised of very willing and able students who strive to better themselves regardless of their different backgrounds. Our school is in one of the poorest and most dangerous parts of our Colorado Springs. Most of our students come from broken homes where they will either have no one at home while they are there or parents that just simply cannot afford to give the children what they need to succeed.
While our students are at school nearly 80% take advantage of our free and reduced-price lunch.
Our school offers many after school activities and share a lot of equipment. Having something for our physical education classes to call their own would improve student learning and participation. I feel our students are extremely unique and special for the amount of time they dedicate to making a school a better place. These students deserve equipment that they can be proud of.
My Project
Our students need physical education in a huge way. Having a physical education class helps many of my students escape their day to day lives that may not be in the best of shape. When the students come into class and they see old cheaply held together equipment it sets a negative mood for the learning environment. They are immediately feeling that the class will be only as good as the equipment is.
Soccer and badminton are two of the most popular sports that we play in our physical education program.That being said, we do not have enough equipment for the entire class to be involved.
Having these new soccer goals and badminton nets would help expand the learning environment for our classes drastically.
