Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is for alternative students. The campus is technology based and majority of learning is done through computers or other versions of technology.
My school is an alternative high school campus for students that are pregnant or have families of their own, want to work at their own (usually accelerated pace), or come here because they do not feel wanted and welcomed at main stream schools.
We champion the students that no one else will on my campus.
My Project
I like to continue the use of technology in my room when I direct teach. I also like to play education games that keep students learning and interested. I have found many apps and interactive games that can connect with my smartboard online. An iPad Air will allow students to sit in a group together and participate in learning activities as well as discussions. The Shmoop subscription will help students develop grade level vocabulary in student friendly language. Shmoop has built in comprehension checks as well, so I can easily see where a student needs the most help. The teacher edition of Shmoop subscription will give me access to lesson plans and ideas to help those struggling students.
I would like to be able to use the iPad Air to connect to my smartboard and have education activities that not only teach students another form of technology, but keep them working as a group.
Discussions and working with groups is a great tool and life skill. Shmoop is a student friendly site that teaches vocabulary in an interesting and relevant way. Shmoop has built in comprehension checks, so I can easily see where a student needs the most help. All of this can be accomplished with this project.
