Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
On our school swim team, our goal is to develop resilient scholar-athletes. Our inner-city students are very diverse, ranging from Latino, Asian, and African American backgrounds. They include immigrants and English Learners, as well as high-performing Gifted and Talented students. Most are from low-income families. They balance the challenges of college-prep classes with the battles of high school athletics.
My students are talented athletes, but at a Title I school, sometimes it's difficult to provide the gear necessary to compete on a level playing field.
My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations. They hold the American Dream but need the tools to make them successful.
My Project
Our swim team needs new goggles and caps for next season. The school's athletic budget is limited, so it is necessary that we supplement it through fundraising efforts. Most of our swimmers come from low-income families; last year, we relied on gifts from donors to supply our students with gear.
On behalf of our student-athletes, we are returning to our generous donors once more asking for your help.
I have chosen silicone swim caps for their durability and sturdy Speedo goggles that will withstand the rigors of the swim season. Help us provide these essential basics for our student-athletes. It will make a world of difference for them in the pool.
