My students bring strengths and abilities to our classroom; we celebrate the things we CAN do while strengthening our abilities where we need help. We work in small groups in the "speech" room, general classrooms and the larger community to practice our skills across different situations.
Students in our speech/language groups work on communication goals through conversation, games and fun learning activities.
Focusing on communication in fun ways enable students to do better in other subjects. Group work will help them outside of the classroom to problem solve and work as part of a team. Our students of all levels use a range of communication styles including speaking, sign language, body language, pictures, and technology and are given the opportunity to convey their needs and wants in appropriate ways.
My Project
Help us improve our communication goals! We need communication and learning tools in our room to help strengthen our speech and language skills.
These tools, such as the TALKABLES ICON HOLDER and BUTTON TALK SET, help those who aren't able to speak in traditional ways participate in fun group activities with classmates.
Some of our communication goals include vocabulary, speech sounds, volume, speaking slower or more smoothly, and social skills. The POCKET CHART STAND and chart POCKETS give us a place to sort our ideas while we focus on our goals. Working in groups teaches individual skills while also offering the benefit of learning from friends.
These tools will give students opportunity to participate in group work and the ability to have fun while learning!
