Help our Students Get A Grip!

Help me give my students gripper arms for greater functioning for our computer science robots!

My Students

I teach media center (library and computer science) at a 100% Title I school; meaning the majority of my students are considered "At-Risk." Our students almost all qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many come from one parent families or are not even being raised by their parents. Needless to say my students are not given the same opportunities as many kids their age.

My district's media center budget is $0.00.

So while many schools can rely heavily on parent fundraising or student fundraisers to maintain and update their library or update their media centers with technology tools like robots, or MakerSpace materials, I have to rely on personal funds and crowdfunding sites like this one. Occasionally, I even rely on being the fundraising incentive when needed. (As you can see from the picture of me duct-taped to the wall for a school's fundraising prize.)

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read about my students and potentially bring them greater educational opportunities!!

My Project

These Dot and Dash Gripper Arms will add more functionality to our Dot and Dash robots; so instead of just programming the robots to move or push objects, they will now be able to program these robots to grab, move, and drop objects.

This will not only add functionality to the robots, but add another layer to the students' coding ability.

The students love programming Dot and Dash, but without additional pieces like the Gripper Arms, they will eventually get bored of simply programming the movement and sounds. These arms will continue to keep them engaged in the coding process!
