Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an economically disadvantaged school in CA. I am an Intervention Teacher and work with K-5 grade students. Our school truly is a village; every student is important to us. To that end, I am asking for products that will improve the hygiene and self images of our older students.
Our students love coming to school; they depend on our staff to help them develop into kind, hard working and respectable human beings.
Some of them do have struggles at home both financially and emotionally. Those struggles can impact their ability to learn. Any way in which we can help them to feel better about themselves will enhance their ability to learn.
One of the best and easiest ways in which to help them is with their personal hygiene. Having clear skin, clean hair, and knowing you look your best, can release students to focus more on their studies. When students, especially in that awkward stage, don't feel like they look their best, it is hard for them to focus. I want to do all I can to avoid those issues.
My Project
Every year, I turn to Donors Choose to ask that the community help our students who are struggling financially. The older students particularly, are dealing with changing bodies and self esteem. They want to have clean, shiny hair and plenty of supplies at home to establish a healthy body.
I am asking for products from deodorant to socks for a very specific reason.
Some of our students have old shoes, and we can't afford to replace them, but a clean pair of socks can make a big difference when your shoes are old. Our students are growing up, and deodorant, body wash and shampoo are essential to their sense of self pride and acceptance from peers.
We want to do all we can to make our students feel the very best they can about themselves. Any help is appreciated.
