Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in a small urban city, my students have not had the privilege to explore the world. My overall hope is that many of my students grow up knowing there is much more of this world other than the small city we live in. My students are in Transitional Kinder, Kindergarten and 1st grade. My students have Autism and need multi-modal ways of communicating as well as learning. Through technology my students will not only learn to expand their learning but they will also use is as a mode of communication. I teach in an urban, Title 1 school and technology is not available in our classroom as well as at home.
My Project
My school has high rates of free and reduced lunch along with a low economic standing. Many of my students come to school hungry with school being their only two meals a day. I believe incorporating tables will be used to create an engaging and motivating learning environment. It is very important that my students can use these tablets as most importantly a way of communication. Many of my students are non –verbal and need a communication device in order as a means of communication with myself as well as with their peers. Using a communication board app on the tablet will allow my students a voice and is a vital component of their communication and learning the classroom. Please support my students and allow them to engage in learning and developing their means of communication so they have a voice in the classroom and in this world!
