Help Our Students Become Interested in the World Around Them!
My students need quality science and news resources that are at their reading and interest level to promote interest in the world around them through reading.
My students are an extremely diverse group of kids, representing 10 different nationalities in my classroom alone. Our school is in a high poverty area, with a 30% English Language Learner population. My class has a 50% ELL population, and engaging materials are very important for their growth.
Our students love to learn but often don't have the materials necessary to do so in the most engaging way.
One thing that inspires them is science and nature, and Nat Geo's magazine for kids is something that they love to read. Science is an engaging way to get kids reading and understanding text features.
My Project
Our students often find it difficult to read science and news resources around them due to their low reading levels. Time Magazine and Scholastic Magazines are specifically geared toward certain grade levels, and this helps our students learn about the world around them in the most effective and engaging way. Scholastic directly relates to much of what we learn in our classroom, including weather, animals, and science in general. Time Magazine is a great source of news that will help our students be interested in today's world, since they will be able to read it all! We hope to gain both of these resources in our classroom through this project.
