Help Our Students with Special Needs Build, Read, and Succeed!
Help me give my students the tangible materials and medium with which they can build numbers and letters/words as they increase their Math and Reading skills.
I teach up to 17 Kindergarten and First Grade students ages 5-7 in a self-contained classroom within a Chicago Public Elementary School. All of my students have disabilities that range from Down Syndrome to Autism to Learning Disabilities, and many in between. For that reason, my instruction is extremely differentiated between my 3 leveled Math groups.
All of my students love to engage in hands-on learning activities.
They come to class each day with smiles on their faces and always try their hardest. Because of their motivation, I am inspired every day to be the best teacher I can be and provide them with with the best materials offered.
My Project
By supplying my students with a magnetic easel, magnetic letters, and magnetic numbers, we are increasing their opportunities to expand their Math and Reading skills in a fun, hands-on way! Students will get the chance to create words, two and three-digit numbers, and number stories on the easel that is easy to move around the room in order to meet the needs of all students. The easel also allows easy storage in the back, so students with sensitivities will not get overwhelmed by a routine with bits and pieces scattered around the room. Everything will be in one nice, convenient location for them.
Students will use this board both during instruction and to explore their skills during play time or independent functioning work time.
Your contribution could make a huge difference in a child's learning! Thank you!
