Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This neighborhood school specializes in the creative and performing arts. The students that attend this school are gifted, sweet, and funny. They like to dance, sing, paint, draw, design, create, and read.
The amazing students at our school deserve the highest quality reading materials and resources in order to be successful.
They are low income students and most exist within a book desert in their personal lives.
The students at this school ask for new reads and want to be more literate. It's up to us to help them be successful and become lifelong lovers of reading!
My Project
We are in a fiscal crisis in our district. Library funding has been eliminated. We have books in shambles and falling apart, but kids are still asking for them to read because it's all we have. Our library is the heart of our school; kids love to come here to relax and read.
The reading nook bean bags would allow for more free choice seating in the library and the new/popular books would give students quality materials to enjoy.
The books requested for this project are the most popular and most requested books from our students. At the moment there are wait lists of two or more months just to get a popular title. Most of the books in our library range from the late 1970s to early 2000s. We are in desperate need for updated reading material. Please help by giving kids the gift of a great reading experience!
