Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am in a unique situation. I am getting the opportunity to start a new band program for a new inner-city middle school in Oklahoma City. This will be my second year teaching and my first in this type of school. I strongly believe that every child deserves a great education and all the materials they need for that experience. There are a few items that we still need in order to give the students a great band experience in middle school.
My Project
One of the most requested instruments kids want to play is the saxophone. Starting a new inner-city music program we are limited with the instruments that we have. We have been blessed with having enough instruments for about half our students. We are currently having the kids share flutes, clarinets, trumpets, trombones, and percussion kits in our classes. Our school does not currently own a saxophone. Since I have had so many students who want to play the saxophone, it would be really great to surprise them with the opportunity to learn the saxophone. Thank you for helping our students.
