When my students walk in every day, I don't see them as children. I see them as the future. They will lead us one day as I try to lead them now.
I teach at a Title I school in Kailua, Hawaii.
This means we are a school where a high percentage of our students receive free or reduced lunch. But, we don't let that stop us. My 6th-grade class is amazing and can do anything!
My class loves to learn and uses every opportunity to do it. Many students stay in during recess and after school to learn more about everything and anything. Their passion for learning cannot be extinguished!
My Project
This year, our class has been working on ROBOTICS. It has completely captured the imagination of the class. Although they can work independently, my kiddos have found that group projects are more exciting! With a designated collaboration table, they could meet to work on their inventions and ideas.
Through group collaboration, my students are coming up with amazing ideas.
They are designing elaborate space stations and simple bottle holders. By bouncing ideas off each other, they are inventing things that are useful and things that may be used someday. They are learning the design process and how to see it to the end.
