Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Tagalog, Urdu, Turkish, and Spanish are some of the many languages spoken by the children in my classroom. Our school is a Title I, inner-city school where 90% of the children receive free or reduced-priced lunch. My children are extremely eager to learn and are very appreciative of everything that is given to them. They love coming to school and are excited to begin each day.
My students face many challenges in their daily lives.
Having the necessary materials to learn should not be one of them. The only way I can ensure my children are successful in their educational journey is to provide these tools to them.
My Project
Getting the appropriate Guided Reading books into the hands of my students has been extremely difficult this year. The majority of my children are new to the country and are just learning their letters, sounds and sight words. I have some books to get them started but I do not have multiple copies to use in Guided Reading books. Last month I learned that I was awarded the Carter Spark Grant. My proposal was for 8 copies of multi-leveled books. We are excitedly waiting on the arrival of these books, but will not have a place to store them.
This is a problem that I am so happy to have.
There is no such thing as too many books Having a new bookcase will solve this problem and keep our books organized.
