Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine being in middle school and loving to read. Just loving books in general. Imagine being invited to a carefully selected book club of young women who are all readers, just like you. Now imagine not being able to afford the book that everyone else is reading.
Our students are AWESOME!
Many of our students come from low income, urban communities. Every student in the school is working towards a goal of reading one million words this year, and these "Reader Leaders" encourage others to read, as well as plan school activities.
My Project
I am requesting 15 copies of Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare and 15 copies of Fallen by Lauren Kate so that each student in the book club has a book to take home and keep. It is heartbreaking that there are kids out there who don't own books themselves, and your donation will allow these girls to cultivate their very own library.
The girls meet every Wednesday in the library during lunch with two members of the faculty to discuss their reading as well as other reading-based activities for the school, like author visits, read-ins, and school book fairs.
