This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is made up of 25 little shinning stars! Many of the children in our class are experiencing being away from their parents for the first time. They are able to start preschool on their third birthday, and are welcome to stay in our program for up to three years until reaching five years old. The children in our classroom come from all different backgrounds and neighborhoods throughout the city of Springfield. All of our students come to us at different levels and with many different needs. Half of our class is made up of special education students with individual learning plans. The children in our class are learning many fundamentals from counting, their alphabet, to shapes and colors. Eighty-five percent of our student body falls below or at poverty level.

My Project

Our easel is 20+ years old and is hanging on for dear life! It is currently being held together by one bolt. It is a major safety hazard in our classroom. We would be beyond thankful to have a new easel. We use our current easel several times throughout the day. We start our day off with a morning/afternoon message from the teacher. We also use it during story time, math and speech for visuals. At the pre-k level visuals and hands on activities are very important for their development. However with the current condition of our easel the children are unable to use ours.
