Help Our Cross Country Team Host its First Home Meet
My students need more uniforms for our growing cross country team, as well as materials (walkie talkies, event staff bibs, tables, trail signs, and a first aid kit) for hosting our first official cross country meet.
We are public school located in an extremely rural and remote area. We do not benefit from any large corporations or universities since we have none nearby. Our population is low, and job opportunities are harder to find.
Despite 'running' on a budget of zero last fall, our cross country team has been fortunate enough to crowdsource our uniforms and equipment as we took our first steps to the starting line.
After seeing our first initial year of success, we now have been dubbed an official 'school sport', and we are generating more interest in aspiring athletes. If we keep this momentum going, we hope to have an even larger team by the fall of 2018.
My Project
We achieved the official status of a school sport through school board approval last November. We're a real 'sport' now!
Now that we are an official sport for our school, we intend to continue to grow and also host our first ever home cross country meet!
We'll need more uniforms, and we'll need to equip 10 volunteers with event staff bibs and walkie talkies to monitor the runners while they compete. The yard sale signs are for marking the course, and the folding tables are necessary for food and drink after the meet.
