Teaching English is an exciting experience because I see students begin to explore potential careers and fields of study. As a new school, our 50 first-year students are just beginning their high school and college journey at the same time. My classroom promotes engaging activities and objectives tied to 21st Century Skills.
We are student-centered, career ready and college bound school.
This exciting new program will allow students to seamlessly transition into their first college credits while earning their high school diploma. In English, we will explore exciting texts and prepare to be effective communicators in future educational and career settings. As a brand new school for the 2018-19 school year, we will be "Navigating New Waters Together".
My Project
I am asking for resources for my literature class including colored paper, a class set of books, and a resource/activity book to accompany Romeo and Juliet. The No Fear Shakespeare books I am requesting will help begin a book collection at a brand new early college high-school. With a brand new school, the budget is limited for instructional materials and unlike most schools, we have no book rooms with shelves of books to choose from. We will use these books in English I to read Romeo and Juliet. The Folger's Teachers Guide has hands-on activities and performances all tied to Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Skills.
Our students need to have handheld classroom copies of novels, epic poems, and plays.
English I is a multi-genre course and requires many materials. These books and accompanying teacher guide will take the stress out of teaching Shakespeare and allow students to analyze the text from a modern perspective.
