Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Picture the very first time you started to read a book and couldn't put it down. Now picture the joy you felt once you read it. I want this for my 5th graders!
Who are my students?
They are my inspiration and they are my superstars, even if they don't see it yet! My 5th graders are children who are at that awesome age of discovering independence and becoming young adults. The population at our school is a rough one. We are at a 95% poverty level with kids who come from very little. School is where they shine and where many of them would rather be. They know that when they walk through our doors, they will be accepted and are surrounded by people who believe in their abilities. They aren't just another mouth to feed or another child to take care of, they are the future. We carry this attitude as a school and it reflects in our kids' attitudes as learners.
My Project
Oh what we could do with books, books, and more BOOKS! I feel a child can never have enough books. It has been proven that a student's reading success is directly correlated to how many books they have on their bookshelf. Obvious solution: get more books! The books I have requested are high-interest books that cover a variety of levels for all of the learners in my class. With these books, I can share my enthusiasm for reading with my students who have not yet experienced it for themselves. The teacher resources I've requested will help out tremendously. The comprehension resource guide will fit in great with my guided reading groups and will aid my students in understanding all of these new books that are so fantastic. The literacy plays resource guide... can't wait to share these with my kids! They love to act out and are so engaged during activities like these! It's amazing to watch.
At the risk of sounding cliche, the best gift you can give a child is a book.
Books unlock their imagination and take them to a world that is so different from their own. I have specifically picked out books that students have loved in the past. By adding high-interest books to my library, there will be a spark in my kids. Also, the teacher resources will help me help them. I want to give my kids the very best I have to give and your donations will help me achieve that.
