My Students
My school is a melting pot of race, religion, and culture. It is located in a vibrant part of the city. My students are wonderful- they are smart and kind teenagers. They are hard working and funny. They are city kids and many come from low-income households.
My students embrace and value their diversity.
They are determined to have bright futures and know that the hard work that they are putting in now is crucial to their success.
Given the opportunity, they will thrive.
My Project
Eighth graders will team up with the Kindergartners to create a school butterfly garden that all grades will enjoy. Each eighth grade will have a garden buddy that will build the space together after researching the best habitat for the butterflies. The eighth graders will read to the Kindergartners about butterflies and nature. The teams will take care of the garden throughout the school year and use the garden area a place for learning in nature.
The garden will not only help the butterflies, but kids will also learn valuable lessons about nature and our Earth while building a stronger community in the school.
This project will foster positive mentoring relationships and a love of nature.
