This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in an inner city school where most of my students come from low income households. The neighborhoods where my students are from surround them with poverty and violence and still my students come to school ready to learn. Their little minds are still full of wonder and curiosity and want to explore as much as possible.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
My Project
Books related to STEM titles and Magna-tiles will help spark and maintain my students interest in subjects such as engineering and math. Adding Magna-tiles to our math center rotations will allow students to explore hands on making and decomposing shapes as well as beginning their own exploration in magnets.
With these new books and magna tiles, my students will be able to explore counting, building, and reading independently.
The use of Magna-tiles in the classroom offer a new and creative way to introduce my students to STEM through learning. With the magna-tiles they will create, build and decompose using their own independent thinking. The book titles such as "Shape" and "Ten Black Dots" will foster students literacy and math skills. Lastly the books on Growth Mindset such as "The Girl who Never Made Mistakes" will help me as a teacher show them that learning to do anything is possible and mistakes along the way are ok.
