I teach in a public school on a military base in SC.
Our student body consists of military children as well as children in low income families that have chosen to send their children to our school due to our status as a "Choice School" under NCLB.
We are considered a "High Poverty" school due to the fact that the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Due to the nature of some military families and the fact that many parents are deployed throughout the year, leaving these children with one parent at home as well as the financial situation of many families having both parents working many hours, several students' families are strained for not only money, but time. This affects the students academically. Our parents sacrifice so much for their children and for our country. I feel indebted to them and feel it is my duty to serve them to the best of my ability.
My Project
I currently have twenty-six fourth graders in a very small classroom. Having these organization tools right at their seats will not only keep the children organized, it will also cut down on transition time during instruction. The students will always know where their belongings are and will have little opportunity to lose things and use class time in order to find it. This may seem like an unnecessary request, but organization is difficult for children this age and having their supplies handy absolutely will improve their progress in class. It would surprise you how much time is spent looking for books, pencils, paper, and other supplies. Having all of this right at their seats will make such a difference!
Please consider donating for this cause.
My students this year, next year, and for many years to come will truly benefit from having these supplies in my classroom. You will take part in instilling value in organization and responsibility for so many children. This is something that I personally cannot afford to do on my own. With your help, I will be better equipped to do my job, one I love, and I will be extremely grateful, as will my students. Thank you for your consideration
