Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in kindergarten through third grade. They all have special needs including specific learning disabilities such as Autism, other health impairments, and intellectual disabilities. All of my students have individual strengths and needs.
I teach in a high poverty elementary school that has 100% free and reduced rate lunch program.
Our school is located in a low-SES community, and while the students face daily challenges, they are resilient and perseverant. My students truly value their education and have a strong desire to learn.
My Project
This carpet and floor seats will give my students more flexible seating options in the classroom. They will provide choices and allow my students to be more engaged in the lessons being taught. The carpet will cut down on noise that often distracts my students. It will also be an inviting spot for students to work in groups or read books. The flexible seating will enable us to create an atmosphere that allows students to move freely. These students are often more active and learn better using a more unconventional classroom setup. We share a classroom with another special education group so our space is limited.
