My Students

I have a passion for working with students with significant speech impairments, including children who are dual language learners. My students are ages 3-5 and are learning how to formulate sounds to communicate their basic wants and needs.

My students are very intelligent and hard working but struggle to communicate with their peers, teachers and their families.

I focus on personalizing my therapy for each student so they can say "mom", "dad", the names of their family members and pets. We use real pictures and video to stimulate excitement and motivation to communicate.

My Project

The use of an IPAD in any facet of education is now universal. When working with 3-5 year olds who struggle to formulate sounds and words, yet can comprehend all the information being presented to them, motivation to communicate can be difficult.

These young students need an intense amount of therapy and because of that, they struggle to stay attentive and engaged with classic therapy materials.

Using an IPAD to take pictures and video of family members that can then be used during speech therapy sessions will increase the motivation and participation of the student. This will also increase the rate of success for the child.
