I've taught first grade for the last 13 years and will be changing and moving to second grade this year. I will have a few of the same students. My students are very hands on, thoughtful, and love taking on new challenges.
I will have 22 amazing students this year!
Of these 22 students, their will be a mix of different learning styles. Some of my students learn best hands on while others may need more visual or listening. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
When the students walk into my classroom in the morning, they are greeted by uniform rows of desks and chairs. There's no variety, no excitement! They need to move! I'm looking for "flexible" seating options, which means I'd like to provide them with choices of how and where they sit, and to keep them engaged while they are seated!
Some students may choose to sit at a regular desk, while others may choose something else that works best for them.
Wobble chairs are chairs that let them wiggle while they work. Balance balls and wobble cushions allow for the same freedom for wiggling, and also let the students mix up where and how they work. The portable lap desks can be a great way for students to find their own spot where they can work in a calm, quiet spot.
There are plenty of studies that show that even a little room to move helps students stay focused on their work. I want them to be able to make their own choices!
