Help me give my students paint, paper, markers, oil pastels, and drying racks to create their own expressive art pieces to display in a gallery settings. Some of the artists they will emulate are Seurat, Picasso, and Escher.
We are a second grade class who likes to learn by laying on the floor with our clipboards, huddled in a corner reading our favorite books, or engaged in a hands-on activity. We love collaborating together to inquire about our latest discovery. Every student has an equal opportunity to learn!
We are an International Baccalaureate school that encourages both personal and academic achievement through inquiry based learning.
We love to work in many different forms. I encourage my students to work how they feel most comfortable. We spend most of our time in small groups either on the floor or sitting at a table because that is how they are most engaged in our room. My students enjoy working in collaborative groups where they can really share opinions and ideas on a personal level.
My Project
My goal is to enhance the students' global understanding of different art mediums and help them express their creativity. I want to give them the opportunity to feel like true artists do, using different supplies and tools so they can share their imaginations and desires. Students will make 6 gallery quality art pieces using the materials from this project. For example, students will use the watercolors to create a colorful landscape inspired by Gaugin. They will use the tempera paints and q-tips to create an art piece demonstrating pointillism like the artist, Seurat. In yet, another piece students will use the oil pastels to create a portrait like Picasso’s cubism self-portrait.
This project will help improve the lives of my students because it will help them gain prospective by looking at the world through different lenses.
To conclude the project students will display their artwork in the hallways along with their artist statements. They will share their artwork with family and friends. They will express how the process made them feel and highlight what piece they feel most proud of.
