My Students
I teach a TK-2nd grade Autism Core Curriculum classroom. I absolutely love my students. They are all so different, have various strengths and different modalities of learning, which is why I invest a large amount of time and out of pocket expenses in getting them the resources they need in order to access the curriculum. My students love project based learning and hands-on work. They thrive working in a centers-run classroom. We love products that can be easily differentiated and are organized and easy to implement in the classroom. With funds provided by you, I will be able to purchase various activities for our ELA and Math centers. Year long center activity bundles are expensive, yet make this teacher's life easier and as a result, gives me more time to invest in planning and differentiating for each of my students. The look of awe on my students’ faces when they get a chance to experience and learn Math and English in unorthodox fun ways, is a look I never want to stop advocating for in my classroom.
My Project
Many of my students show their understanding through interactive activities and play, rather than through worksheets or verbal explanations. I have found that many of my students thrive when working on these type of activities during centers. The excitement will be palpable in my students when I announce our activities in our literacy centers for the day. Students are grouped according to their reading levels and given activities based according to their needs. It is difficult to create handmade activities that can address the area of Phonemic Awareness/Phonics. These resources definitely address these areas of reading and will benefit my students.
