Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are some of the most amazing, young people on this planet. However, many come to school uninterested in the institution of school. I have found that the arts, and ceramics in particular, can be the hook that gets young people excited about school. Art is the hammer that shapes our reality.

Many of my students come from extreme poverty.

My students come from diverse backgrounds. I have found that once my students are given a chance and a hook that gets them involved, they can do anything.

My Project

My students are making some great art work. In ceramics what really brings clay to life is the glaze. My Students really enjoy glazing their amazing art work. One of the biggest problems however is how expensive glaze is. I have a small budget to buy ceramic supplies. So, often my students don't have all the material they need to finish their art work.

It is truly a powerful thing to see how working with clay can change a young persons life for the better!

I have seen the impact one semester of ceramics can have on the way a young person looks at the world. You could help be a change maker in my students lives!
