My students need technology to help them learn with learning applications, listen to reading, and keep them engaged. The project includes iPads and iPad cases for my students.

My Students

My students live in an impoverished, rural area. The school does not offer a preschool class, so many of my students did not have the opportunity to attend preschool. Those students entered kindergarten at a disadvantage, not fully prepared for the beginning coursework. Some did not know basics like numbers, letters, or shapes. Despite the hardships that these children face, they come to school eager to learn. They want to do well and succeed in mastering the necessary skills. The students are very engaged when technology is involved, so by adding technology to instruction the children will gain even more knowledge.

My Project

A set of iPads for the kindergarten classroom will make a significant difference in in the classroom. These would be used during reading, daily 5, science and math. A student can listen to a book on the iPad while following the printed word. They will also be able to learn through applications on the iPads. These applications will also track and document the student’s progress for each subject I teach through a portfolio application.

The use of the iPads will supplement teacher instruction.

The teacher can be working with one group of students while the other group uses the iPad apps.
