Ms. Fortuna from Cleveland OH is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need to hold a book in their hands in order to help them fully immerse themselves in the story. "Wonder" is a story that will teach them compassion and empathy.

My sixth-grade class is a highly spirited, inquisitive, and full of strong personalities, just as you would expect in this grade.
My students chose the book "Wonder" by unanimous vote, and they are asking me every day when we can get started.
I want them to each be able to hold a book in their hands without fear of accidentally messing up a page and creating a fine from a book borrowed from the library.
Instead, we want to add these books to our classroom library for future classes of sixth graders to enjoy.
My students are all living in a high poverty area overrun with violence, fear, and the feeling of being trapped. Through education, they are starting to realize these are their keys to a better life. All my students are struggling readers, and when I presented this idea to them, they all immediately asked if we could do this book in the wake of the release of the movie.
Help me help my students discover the "Wonder" in themselves!
My project will fund a class set of books so all my students can read their own copy, eliminating sharing and allowing them to read at their own pace.
My students will use this class set of books to work on their very first book talk project, as well as helping to further develop their social-emotional learning through the inspirational story of Augustus in "Wonder".
Reading is the gateway to imagination, and these books will be the key. My kids are ready to step into a journey they have never been exposed to. Please help them discover the wonder of a good book!
