My Students

I teach in a large, K-8 school in North Phoenix. Each day, I teach four sections of fourth-grade social studies and writing. I have a total of 110 faces coming through my door, depending on me to teach them the skills that they need to be successful not only in my class, but in life.

My students come from all different backgrounds, each bringing their own unique skill set to class.

Some of my students are performing above grade-level, the majority are performing at grade-level, and some are performing below grade-level. One thing that all of my students have in common is that they care about their learning and want to be successful.

My Project

My students need access to Chromebooks on a daily basis in order to practice the skills that they need to be successful in the 21st Century. In class, we are working in Google Classroom to write essays, with emphasis on formatting. All of our district and state testing is done online, and I want my students to be prepared. While typing our first essay of the year, I quickly realized that my students did not know basic computer functions. Being proficient on a computer will not only help my students in my classroom and on testing, but it will also help them in life.

It is very difficult to teach computer skills when my students don't have access to the technology that they need on a daily basis.

When we are working on essays, I have to ask other teachers in my school to borrow their Chromebooks so that I have a complete class set. Having access to extra Chromebooks would not only benefit all of fourth-grade, but other grade-levels would benefit as well.
