Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Save my back and the students' toes! The furniture in my classroom is not convenient for me and my students. Either I'm stretching to write across a easel not made for chart paper while holding it with my other hand or the students can't reach the paper because it is too high up.
I teach 12 talented and enthusiastic special needs first and second graders on the Lower East Side of New York City.
They learn using different modalities. Some need to touch and some need to access the information several times for mastery. They are eager to learn and want to do it all! Their "I can do it!" attitude motivates me to be a better teacher. Having adjustable supplies helps me help them.
My Project
My students need a height adjustable easel, a chart stand, lots of chart paper and pens to participate in mini-lessons. I am requesting an adjustable magnetic easel so I can write word family poetry on chart paper for shared reading without pulling muscles in my back when using a makeshift chart paper holder. The chart paper holder will help me display the poetry on their level so they can use the poems to improve their reading level.
The easel, chart paper holder and chart paper will help me give my students an accessible way to interact with the written word.
It will give them independence when accessing reading material they feel comfortable with. Help me give my special needs students an accessible way to improve their reading skills!
