Our students are curious and creative and love to make music. Most specifically, they love to play instruments and accompany themselves. One of the the things they say they love most about music class is playing instruments. Their eyes light up when they realize they will be playing the barred instruments in class.
Students come from a very diverse background.
This is a considered a suburban district but it also has a vast rural area that it serves as the district covers 75 miles and five towns. This diversity is the best part of the district. Students learn from one another and yet have many things that they share in common.
My Project
Music class is all about moving, singing, and playing! Music is experiential; learned by making the music, that is playing. At our elementary school children get many opportunities to sing and move to music and we would like to offer more opportunities to play and make music.
We would like to offer supplement the Orff instruments (xylophones & metallophones) we have with a bass bars to provide a bourdon accompaniment so that students can accompany themselves.
This gives students opportunities to participate by singing or moving to the music being created or playing an instrument that provides the accompaniment for the others to sing and move to.
We are fortunate to have some xylophones and metallophones but are looking to complete the accompaniment with bass bars. We are requesting Bass Bars which will help provide the foundation of student accompaniment. These instruments will be used emphasize tonal harmony another aspect music.
