My students are young scholars who were born into poverty. My job is to make sure this fact does not define them. My six and seven-year-old students face many problems. Yet, they come to school and truly put their best foot forward. The majority of my students do not have their primary needs met and they are expected to come into the classroom and perform at the same level as every student in America. My job is to make sure that these scholars reach their fullest potential. This is possible with the right influences and support.
The majority of my students cannot afford to have three balanced meals a day.
In fact, most of them only eat meals at school. Most of these same heroes rush through breakfast to come upstairs to hear what I have to say. That inspires me to put my best foot forward every day as we learn together.
I am lucky to teach little heroes. My goal is to help these scholars become the best versions of themselves that they can be.
My Project
My scholars need a variety of reading materials that are leveled to help them learn how to read. Each year, our library gets smaller and smaller due to overused books and limited materials. Having a leveled library will help each of my scholars read books at their level! This is so important for independent reading time. When scholars become independent in reading in first grade, it's a gift that lasts a lifetime! My goal is to get every scholar to enjoy reading. The only way to achieve this is to create a variety of leveled books to choose from.
