My students attend a public charter school in Baltimore City where we focus on improving their overall health. These young scholars are some of the most resilient and hard working boys and girls that you will ever meet. Last year our school won the Silver Award from The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, marking our school one of the healthiest in America. We are always looking for ways to motivate our deserving students to continue to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle now and throughout their adulthood.
Our middle students love being physically active! Heck, it’s a main part of the mission at our charter school. Our hard working scholars set individualized fitness goals throughout the year that they can use as motivation to live happier and healthier lives. I teach my students to monitor their level of activity during class, but with only one heart rate monitor and an old personal wristband activity tracker, it gets difficult, to say the least!
A class set of activity trackers would allow each of my students to monitor their fitness level during class and determine if they are reaching their intended goals.
These monitors would also allow for fun cross-curricular lessons.
Sadly, many of our students live in chaotic and traumatic environments outside of school. Allowing our scholars to feel safe and in control of their overall health is my number one priority.
