My students need sensory seat cushions and balance balls seats to improve focus and change up the seating throughout a long day in full day kindergarten!
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative, meaningful and hands-on learning experiences.
My students are eager to learn new things and I am eager to teach them in new ways!
There are so many concepts that we learn in kindergarten from letters and numbers, to how to treat one another and what school is all about.
My Project
Studies show that using a balance ball helps promote focus. My kindergarten students will use them during small group time. I have a table where students sit in groups of 5-6 to work on specific skills that they are struggling with and need to master. Often students are reluctant to do this because the tasks are challenging. It would be such an incentive for them to be able to sit on the balance balls while they work. The textured seat cushions are often needed for my students with ADHD or just fidgety friends! When available, these are provided by our Special Education department but often it takes time to get them into my room and in years past, there were none to use. I would love to have these readily available for those students that need them!
