Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten classroom is not a classroom where all we do is fingerpaint, color, glue, and glitter all day long. It is a classroom where discoveries are to be made, questions will be answered, but most importantly learning will happen in a fun way. Students learn how to hone their skills. They learn how to answer questions with confidence, even if not correct. This year I will have 20 explorers in my classroom. 97% of the students come from a low socioeconomic family. A lot of my students come from a home where both parents are working just to make ends meet. Because of this, one of the main principles that I instill in my classroom is that if you work hard you can achieve anything; for them to look around in their world and aim to achieve better. But that can only start with a proper education. That is why I feel in kindergarten I have to work just as hard to make sure that their foundation is sturdy. When they go to the next grade or any other grades that main foundation will have them prepared.
My Project
I am using donation money from another project that wasn't fully funded to supply some needs in class. All the items are some things that are needed but are minor things that are necessary for the classroom. For Example, the behavior chart students need to know how their behavior impacts the report sent home.
As trivial as it may seem, I have playground equipment for my students but do not have a ball pump, and neither does the school.
As much as my students want to play with the balls, it's no fun playing with flat balls.
The threaded capital and lowercase letters are for them to begin forming words and using their fine motor school skills to connect the letters to each other by putting the thread through the hole.
And the last item on my list is the file pack for my students, which are Spanish speakers for them to become more fluent in their native language so that they can quickly learn English.
