I teach at a large comprehensive high school where the students have many needs. Often times they lack basic supplies like paper, pens, pencils, and other simple tools that would allow them to be successful.
My students want to be successful but many of them come from homes where they are going to be the first person in their family to graduate from high school and go to college.
If my students had access to the simple things that many of us take for granted I believe they would achieve at a higher level.
My Project
I'll use these supplies on a daily basis. We write and use supplies every single day and these are basic needs that many of my students can't afford. Having them out for all students to share and use makes them feel empowered and not worry about what others might think. The share table in my room is always there for students and they know they can use it without questions being asked. This allows my students to focus on their job in the classroom and work on getting an education instead of worrying about finding a pencil or a piece of paper.
