Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Carl Sagan once made an alarming statement about science education. He said, “Every kid starts out as a natural born scientist, and then we beat it out of them. A few trickle through the system with their wonder and enthusiasm for science intact.” I do not want my students to fall victim to this.
I want my students to see science as a way of discovering the world around them.
My students have limited experiences with science so far and I want to change this. I want my students to acquire the tools to be prepared for further education and 21st century jobs in their future. Who knows if one of them will be the author of the next great science discovery?
My Project
The sciences are changing every day. As this happens, it becomes more difficult to be sure students are prepared for higher education and careers. Materials that might have been a luxury in year’s past today are necessary for preparing students and allowing them to understand concepts.
I must be able to bring science to life for my students.
Using microscopes regularly during biology allows students to see cell structure, small organisms. These experiences are the unforgettable ones that lead students to choose to study science. My students should not miss out on this because our resources are not as plentiful as in other schools.
