Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My English Language Learners are comprised of a variety of backgrounds and cultures and aim to learn and understand English in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We are in a high poverty, low income school with Title I status in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The majority of our students are from low-income households and qualify for free lunches.
When our state is compared to the rest of the nation, it has the worst discrepancy of funding between the rich and poor.
It is truly an injustice. Despite such hardship, my students deserve learning opportunities where they can grow and support each other as contributing citizens of this global society. As a result, our ESL team aims to provide meaningful opportunities for our ESL students, including access to technology to support learning.
My Project
Despite challenges, our students love using the computer so obtaining this laptop will help assist in their learning. With the keyboard protector students can type with confidence while doing research. Having a computer mouse can also assist while navigating the computer. Using a laptop cover and having a laptop case will further protect the computer. Please help us bring more technology into our classroom!
Having this laptop in my classroom will provide my students another tool that will help them learn and succeed in English while learning Science based concepts.
My students can explore topics in applied sciences in researching life cycles of animals such as butterflies to support their textbook learning, and explore earth science as they understand the important connections between land and water. My elementary students can also explore environmental science topics such as plant science in understanding the process of photosynthesis. Having a laptop where concepts are shown interactively can make a whole difference in student interest and learning about these subjects.
With this laptop, my students can learn English, research topics of interest, and develop confidence in learning while using technology. Thank you greatly in advance for your support!
