Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in Brooklyn, New York. The children at our school are truly amazing. Most are faced with the hardest challenges, but are always ready to tackle the tasks that await them with smiles on their faces. My students come to school every day prepared to learn and meet new academic challenges. They present different cultures, however, we stand together as a school community.
My fourth grade students would greatly benefit from your generosity.
With your help they will be given opportunities that will enhance their education.
My Project
My students will be introduced to a new social studies curriculum this year, and with your help, they will be able to touch, feel, and visualize history with these materials. Students can be taught history, however, it becomes much more meaningful and memorable when you see what you are learning about. I have hand picked materials that correlate to each new unit and I know they will make all the difference in my students' learning. For example, our first unit is on Geography. The World Atlas Book will help students understand how we identify areas on a map and how we use proper resources, such as an atlas, to do so. The vintage map of New York will show what familiar places, such as Manhattan, used to be and how it got its name. In our Second unit on Native Americans, students can touch and feel an actual Native American medicine pouch.
A majority of my students have never experienced life outside of Brooklyn, so these unique materials will help them experience history and historical events firsthand.
