My students need sculpture materials, please help!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I work in a school suffering the effects of extreme poverty. My yearly budget only covers the cost of about 1/5th of the art supplies I need to give my students a high quality art education. All students deserve a chance to learn using the best tools available, which is why I need your help.
My students are vibrant, creative, and unique individuals with rich stories to tell.
They love expressing themselves through their art work. They also actively seek out opportunities to compete, showcase, and volunteer using their artistic abilities. Because of where they have grown up most of their schools have had art cut from the budget, they do not get the education that I have seen offered in many other places, that's often usually taken for granted. I'd like to give them the high-quality art education that they deserve.
We will be creating interesting and dynamic sculptures that express the stories of my students as well as learning new skills. The materials I'm asking are traditional sculpture materials that I just can't afford. Such as wire, sculpture tools, plaster, wood pieces + wood glue, hot glue guns. Two creations that this project will fund are: The class will create their own 3D city, learning about architecture as a career and how to revitalize communities. I have confirmed a local architecture firm who agreed to mentor my students, take them on tours of their office, and will be giving them critique on their architectural creations. They will create masks that tell their personal history while learning about different African cultures. The education director from the Museum of Contemporary Art has agreed to come in and teach my students the rich cultural history of different African countries through their masks.
ALL youth deserve a chance toward successful futures in a global community.
Our Art Studio vision is for a world-class education to be available to all students by using art as a learning tool to expand the possibilities for at-risk youth in educational, emotional, and career development while instilling a sense of personal responsibility and a love for lifelong learning. Art Studio aims to foster creative thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit in at-risk youth.
