When I walked into my classroom, I expected to BEG my children to write. I'm pleased to say that is not the case. In fact, they beg ME to let them write!
I teach fourth grade at a neighborhood school in an impoverished area in North Carolina.
My students are a diverse group with various learning needs and challenges. We are a Title I school, which means that over 80% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our students cannot afford basic school supplies and do not have Internet access at home.
Despite all of this, my students have an undying passion for learning. They want to write and express their feelings and opinions. They want their story to be heard!
My Project
My students are always proud of their work and I want them to take it one step further. I would like for my students to be able to publish their work online in a class blog and on online publishing websites. In order to do this, we need faster, more creative technology.
My students need an iPad with a protective case. My students will be able to use this iPad to publish and expand their audience by sharing their work. I believe this will be a huge motivation for improving our writing and that my students will take immense pride in their work.
Only 3 of my students have access to a computer at home.
This with give our class more access to 21st century technology and allow them to succeed in a globally competitive world.
By helping my students, you will be providing them an opportunity to improve their motivation for writing and writing skills. You will help them get published, just like their favorite authors.
