This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a Sped. population of 17 currently assigned to me. The students I serve have varying abilities and disabilities. What motivates me most is that, while living in a neighborhood where they hear sirens and ambulances perhaps 7 to 10 times before they rest for the evening they remain resilient. The parents send the best they have, with the same aspirations all parents have, to grow their minds in a safe and nurturing environment.
Our school received drastic cuts in resources this year due to our transition from a year-round campus to a 10 month campus.
This greatly impacted the Special Education teachers because we share resources with the General Education teachers. Often we find ourselves as educators sharing a single intervention kit among-st, 3 Gen. Ed. teachers and a Special Educator. Imagine needing the same books at the same time and not being able to photocopy them due to publishing rights, just heartbreaking.
Last school year the school thought it had a gift giver to supply our PD trained requested curriculum but the promise fell through due to funding. Proficient first graders should be reading above level "k" and second graders level "P" or above. PLEASE HELP!!!
My Project
*The donation will afford my students an opportunity to have readily available materials that are data driven at their finger tips. Appropriate kits needed for challenging students.
*Teaching materials for Special Education learners reading 2-3 grade levels below their expected grade level that are rich in fluency and comprehension.
*Interventions materials to help close the achievement gaps between General Education and Special Education.
*Curriculum supports that are differentiated and appropriate for all children.
* This gift will reassure the children that there are real people in the world other than their parents and teachers that care whether they are an asset to society.
