Help My 1st Graders Learn About Current Events and Science!
My students need Scholastic Magazines to share what they've learned at school with family members at home, particularly those family members who cannot read English.
This project expired on December 28, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are good, kind hearted kids. They work hard, they are eager to learn, and many are doing it against the odds. They will grow considerably this year in reading and in math, and they enjoy school.
We are an extremely diverse school and many of my students come from non-English speaking homes.
Many of my students are on a free or reduced lunch program and some kiddos do not have computer access at home. They are bright and cheerful, though, and they soak up knowledge!
Scholastic Weekly Readers and Science Spin magazines will allow my students to read about current events and science topics, while also allowing them to take home the knowledge they've learned to share with family members at home, particularly with those who do not speak English.
A few of my students have been in the US for just a short time and Scholastic Weekly Readers often relate to current US events, which newcomers may not be aware of.
The bright colors and easy to follow photos and descriptions help them and all of our students to understand the events happening all around us.
Scholastic Science Spin highlights topics that 1st graders can relate to and find interesting. These will aid in our science curriculum and will help keep out students engaged in science.
